Seventh week summary(“computer-aid”)
We did inspect ethnomethodology, one more time. Ethnomethodologists assume that social order is illusory. Thus ethnomethodologists assume that order in the social world is an accomplishment, not a given. Then we recalled Johnstone’s story generation game. Thus We can know computer easily, but cannot know human well. After these review, we inspected CSCW firstly. CSCW is computer-supported cooperative work. Computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW) is a field of research and design. For example, there are CAD/CAM and ABB Powerwall and Drug Design. What is CAD? CAD is used to design of construction. Thus it give many information(water capacity, electronic power, changing air...) to us through calculation, when we do design something using CAD. However it cannot draw something automatically. In addition, Drug Design give a convenient to us, when we do invent the drug. We can attach protein to anywhere that we want. Winograd and Flores present a methodology for CSCW analysis and design. They did think about design as conversation construction. It was destiny of result of conversation. Finally, they thought saying is doing. Then we recalled keypoint2(Technologies embody social, political, cultural, economic and philosophical ideas and relationships.). Then we inspect other keypoint(Every digital media technology has an architecture that can be used to transform work, play and governance.). For example, the Social Logic of Space (1990) by Bill Hillier and Julienne Hanson. They did represent normal structure of room to the tree. We can see the “social logic” of the city plan. Most important thing is that there is these structure in a cyber space. We can know keypoint 5(People make media and then media make people.). Winston Churchill said, "We shape our buildings and afterwards our buildings shape us.". For example, we located global media office at first floor to access, easily. In other hand, our leg are trained by hill of IT college. We must consider of Surveillance. Panopticon is one of history of surveillance. Panopticon developed by Jeremy Bentham in the 18th century for prison. He develop it for supervisor’s efficiency. Supervisor can look prisoners in only one spot. Important thing is that these structure is watched in hospital or factory. Why? These structure improves the efficiency of workers. We can watch it in Claude-Nicolas Ledoux’s salt plant at arc-et-senans. Workers should to work hard, because supervisor looks him, easily. We can look surveillance as a dream of the 18th enlightenment. People did claim that society should to be visible and legible each part in that time. However they that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Surveillance is invented by build structure and there is a logic. We can inspect cyberspace. Cyberspace provides a second life to us. It is very popular to people. We can do anything likes real space.
My opinion
This class is hard to me. I think computer-aid is little different from HCI. I can know CSCW and role of it. Then I can consider of surveillance. Then I can know origin of it, which is construction structure for efficiency. I am interested in action in the cyberspace. In addition to we will learn game in a next class. I will be game designer, so I expect it.
